Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program
Glenburn Elementary School is one of 172 North Dakota schools granted federal assistance from the USDA to provide fresh fruits and vegetable snacks during the school day for elementary students. Snacks will be provided to students in grades K-8. Nutrition education lessons will compliment some of the snacks provided. Daily snacks are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week but the frequency of snacks is dependent on seasonal produce prices. The goals for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program are:
- Improve school children's overall diet
- Create healthier eating habits to impact the present and future health of children
- Help schools create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices
- Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience
- Increase children's fruit and vegetable consumption
